Who today would think it daring that female athletes should be mainstreamed into big-boat sailing? That was the general attitude in 1985 until US Sailing and Rolex collaborated to create the Rolex International Women's Keelboat Championship. Twenty-five years later "The Rolex Women's" - as competitors fondly call it - stands as a testament to the huge strides made in women's sailing. This biennial event regularly attracts both the Who's Who and the up-and-coming of women's sailing. The 14th running is scheduled for August 29-September 1, 2011 at the Rochester Yacht Club (Rochester, NY), and utilizes again the J/22! The Notice of Race and other information are available at http://riwkc.ussailing.org. |

Greg Fisher defeated 50 other teams to claim the J/22 North American Championship in Buffalo, NY. With crew Jeff Eiber, Jo Ann Fisher and Martha Fisher, team What Kinda Gone finished the event with 30 points over five races. No racing was completed on the final day of the regatta due to a lack of consistent winds. After a rare score of 20 in the first race of the event, Fisher tallied two third-place finishes and two second-place finishes. Following Fisher in the silver position is Jim Barnash with 35 points and then Chris Doyle with 36. Special awards were also distributed to the highest finishers in three categories: John Loe (youth), Keith Zars (master) and Sue McIntyre (women). The top 10 are: Greg Fisher (30 points), Jim Barnash (35), Chris Doyle (36), John Loe (41), Todd Hiller (51), Travis Odenbach (59), Chris Wientjes (70), Lee Sackett/John Zelli (72), Terry Flynn (74) and Peter Doyle (74).
